Layers have disappeared

RoutemasterMan
Hello All

I am a long time LibreCAD user but have had an issue today that I cannot overcome. I had two multilayer drawings open when my PC froze. Now when I open either of them they are blank with only the default layer showing. All other layers have gone. The file size remains as it did so data is there but not viewable. Any thoughts on this anyone?

Hi,

Maybe look for backup files?
Their filename should begin with "#" then the filename of the original file.

If you find them, copy them with another name, then try to open with LC

Best

Hello
No such luck. It is strange this one. I have had it previously but not with 100 hours of work done so I started again. This one is important. I now know I should save and rename at least daily to ensure I have a good copy.

It simply seems to be that the layers are no longer listed so nothing shows on the drawing. If the layers could be restored somehow, perhaps that would work?

Not sure if this will assist in finding a solution

I see this message when I open the file:

Import Error: Undefined Error

Then, what you see, is only the empty default file. When there is an error with reading the file, no layers are the expected result.

What comes to my mind, that it is just an issue with the file format selection. Maybe the crash changed the config file, but not the drawing.
When you open the file, please check the selected file format in the drop down of the open dialog.

Many thanks for the reply, I hope I understood what you meant.

I opened LibreCad with a blank page, selected open and looked at the file type being browsed for.
Well I was hopeful for a moment as it did have the QCad 1.x file (*.dxf) showing. I changed it but still had the same error message.

All files show regardless of QCad or Drawing exchange being listed.

As I have said, with 1.8MB showing as the file size I expect things to still be there and believe it is simply the layers not showing.

Any more thoughts anyone, please, before I start from scratch?

From distance there is nothing more we can do.
The only chance is to have a look into the file. So if you can share the file I can give it a try.

Do you really not find a backup-file like #filename.dxf, as perepujal suggested? You must have deleted it then, as they are automatically created. You can just try to open it as it is, not really necessary to rename it.
There is also an other type of backup file: filename.dxf~, which I think can often be found after a crash. Remove the ~ and it can be opened.

Again, both tried and both result in the same blank page. As I say I am a long time user and I am usually quite adept with the program and issues. This is a strange one

I have sent the files to you by replying to the email that arrived

This file contains all '\0'.

Looks like you have a bad file system corruption.

Re: Layers have disappeared

Your dxf file is filled with binary 0. No data in the file you provided.

This is mostly a consequence of a corrupted file system.

The best chance is to look for backups. LibreCAD saves backup files in the same folder with # in file names.

If you have backup of your data, try them first. If not, set up a backup for your work folder immediately. Nothing can replace backups, and better to have backups not in the same physical location.
