Librecad crashes

wynnjones
When, having drawn a horizontal line using the horizontal icon, then drawing a parallel line beneath it, and then when attempting to join the two LH ends of the lines with a third line using the two points method, the program crashes. Is this an invalid step please? I have re-loaded the program twice.

The program does crash fairly frequently, particularly after an invalid command. Is this simply “O-E” (operator error) or perhaps because my laptop is a 64 bit machine?

Might I respectfully suggest that you include a table of contents and/or an index sometime please?

With kind regards

Tim

Hi wynnjones,

I'm sorry to know the app is unstable for you.

First, are you running Mac or Windows. We have serious problem with Mac/OSX packaging, calling for a Mac developer to join us.

The parallel line crashing, I couldn't reproduce this issue on my system (Gentoo Linux).

Please make sure you upgrade to the latest stable release 2.0.9. If you are on mac, it means you should build from source. From my own experience, the app is stable when building from source on mac. On building from source, you should be able to follow our wiki: http://wiki.librecad.org/index.php/LibreCAD_Installation_from_Source

For including of a valid help file in the app, I think we are still in the process to generate User manual from wiki. When a valid user manual can be automatically generated, a copy will be included for future releases.

Please let us know if there still issues there.

RE: Librecad crashes

In reply to this post by dxli

Hi,

I’ve downloaded 2.09 and there is an improvement. When drawing parallel lines, the system only works on horizontal and vertical lines and not on oblique lines. Also, when drawing horizontal and vertical lines, and when moving the cursor near the target line, the proposed line appears on only one side of the target line. Are these two outcomes normal?

With kind regards

RE: Librecad crashes

Hi Tim,

What you are described is so weird that I 'm not sure I got the meaning. To me, it's very unlikely to be a bug or packaging issue.

First, do you have proper "Snapping" options set? maybe, you lost snap point by restricting snapping. Double check that you are not restricting (horizontal/vertical/orthogonal), and enable Snap Free.

If it's not an obvious thing like snapping, please provide as mush details as possible, for example:

0, start LC;
1, Command line: line
2, Command: 0, 0
3, Command: 10, 0
4, Command: ptp
5, Command: sf

RE: Librecad crashes

Hi Tim,

Thanks a lot for the detailed information.

I can see the problem is related to "Parallel by distance", instead of "Parallel Through Point" (ptp).

The behavior of Parallel by distance is weird to me. I may have to modify the behavior.

For the time being, try ptp. Another issue, why command alias ptp is not available on your system.

RE: Librecad crashes

I am just not able to make a parallel line thru a point work. Could you list out the steps please?  The “Introduction to Librecad” pdf doesn’t appear to cover this operation.

Thank you

0, start LC;
1, draw a line;

Hi Tim,

Thanks a lot for the detailed information.

I can see the problem is related to "Parallel by distance", instead of "Parallel Through Point" (ptp).

The behavior of Parallel by distance is weird to me. I may have to modify the behavior.

For the time being, try ptp. Another issue, why command alias ptp is not available on your system.

wynnjones wrote

I have done exactly what you instructed:

0, start LC;
1, Command line: line
2, Command: 0, 0       point created at 0,0
3, Command: 10, 0                 Horizontal line created at second point 10,0
4, Command: ptp                    No visible change
5, Command: sf                      No visible change

I then:

1, Clicked on Parallel icon      Command line requested “Specify distance etc

2, Pressed Enter                      Command line command turned blue

3, Moved cusor near line        Parallel line offered on one side only

4, Clicked and drew line

0, start LC;
1, Command line: line
2, Command: 0, 0
3, Command: 10, 0
4, Command: ptp
5, Command: sf

Please let us know if there still issues there.

wynnjones wrote

When, having drawn a horizontal line using the horizontal icon, then drawing a parallel line beneath it, and then when attempting to join the two LH ends of the lines with a third line using the two points method, the program crashes. Is this an invalid step please? I have re-loaded the program twice.

The program does crash fairly frequently, particularly after an invalid command. Is this simply “O-E” (operator error) or perhaps because my laptop is a 64 bit machine?

Might I respectfully suggest that you include a table of contents and/or an index sometime please?

With kind regards

Tim

Tried all that – only works on horizontal lines  As with “parallel”. In both cases the obliquely drawn line does not appear to be selected. Is there a protocol that I am missing?

RE: Librecad crashes

Do you mean you can not select an oblique line in my step 3?

This is unusual.

Does it happen to a particular drawing or for a new drawing from scratch?

Is this a weird bug happens happen to a particular platform? What's your platform? Did you test this issue on other computers?

Another thought, "draw parallel" can be done alternatively:

1. "Copy/Paste": Select entity, Ctl-C/Ctl-V, following the mouse tips to select reference points;
2. Modify -> "Copy/Move"
3. If for straight lines: Modify -> Mirror
4. or fancy: using two rotation to get a move: for example:
rotate around 0, 0 for 60 deg
rotate around 10<60 for -60 deg
and after these two steps, the line is moved by 10<120

Thank you for your response and I apologise for any inconvenience. I have now located another “freeby” package that I probably run with.

With best regards

Tim

Yes
This is unusual.

Does it happen to a particular drawing or for a new drawing from scratch?
For a new drawing from scratch, because I usually “start again” when the system seems to fail.
Is this a weird bug happens happen to a particular platform? What's your platform? Did you test this issue on other computers?
I only have a Toshiba (3yo?) 64 bit Windows 10
Another thought, "draw parallel" can be done alternatively:
I shouldn’t have to do this.
1. "Copy/Paste": Select entity, Ctl-C/Ctl-V, following the mouse tips to select reference points;
2. Modify -> "Copy/Move"
3. If for straight lines: Modify -> Mirror
4. or fancy: using two rotation to get a move: for example:
