Would like to help in LibreCAD.

javiersegurar
Hello!

First of all, thank You very much for such great work and for make possible a really Libre CAD option to the world.

I would like to try to help, and by know may be only testing and reporting/suggesting things  ( I may also help with spanish support but as I already checked the traslation is already made, I am electromechanical engineer and working mainly in wiring and piping designs for buildings, so not sure if this may help in a future, and live & work in Costa Rica, Central America).

One of the reasons that I was so happy to found Your project, is that in my country, at my local Construction Enginneers Autorithy (CFIA in my country), was in the past heavily bad managed to stablish Aut*c@d as a obligate software for design and dwg the only one format for manage and get approval for drawings and schematics of buildings and infraestructure construction projects (this headed by the happy "help" of Aut*desk local representatives (since the later happy hunting for license fees, over a group of users, profesionals and small companies) and after that was legal stablished, they start to chase and there was cases of legal harassment against users that were not with up to date with ac@d licenses, BUT THIS BECAUSE THE SYSTEM ALMOST FORCES AND MAKE AN OBLIGATION TO USE AUT*C@D!!!...  >:-( ). This was so awfull, and me and others start, since around 3 years ago, to complain and asking for the change to allow at least that PDF was allowed as a digital documents format for that purposes, so other CADs options could be used as a free choice of every person.Well the good times delay to come, but lucky, around several weeks ago, the goverment make a strong regulation, that stablish PDF as the default digital doc format for the intended use, so now is possible to work with any CAD software of choice without be persecuted by a giant company and their lawyers.

Well, the things now, is that at CFIA site, now only choices of comercial CADs are available (Aut*C@D, Vect*rsWorks, ZWC@D, BRICSC@D, ArchiC@D and others) and I would like to try help / promote that LibreCAD could be included as option.

Well, by now, the only option to help that I have just now is a Paypal, so, I made a personal little donation, that is all I could do by the moment, appart form installed the LibreCAD repo for ubuntu and start to testing the dev version and try to help.

Thanks again for such great work and best regards to all.

Dear Javier,

Thanks a lot for your sweet comment!

Ries did a great job to start this project. We, as developers and users, all benefit from his hard work.

Yes, translation/localization is always needed, we are tweaking the User Interface as well as the engine core, that means there's always something to translate to more than 20 languages. Ries knows better on this than I

We got a long list of feature requests. https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=342582&atid=1433847

Therefore, we need more developers to implement features. You can always find the current development version at: https://github.com/LibreCAD/LibreCAD

Rallaz is working at amazing pace porting Qt3 leftover to Qt4. There are only 9 .cpp files to go to get LibreCAD Qt3 free. Rallaz knows better on this than I

Re: Would like to help in LibreCAD.

Rallaz
Welcome Javier, I'm not a programmer but the best of free software is not able to use it or modify it, but to study it.
The translation into Spanish (Spain) is ready, but could add Spanish in Costa Rica.

Anyway, people always need to test the program and warn of possible failures

Remainig cpp files: 8
and three almost ready.

Rallaz

Saludos

Javier.

Rallaz Thanks!

Very kind your answer, thank you very much for your great initiative
with this project.

About Spanish Costa Rica, I not sure if it will be necessary at this
time, in my country people using CAD uses almost the interface in
English as general habit, and those who use Spanish-language
interface, the Spanish version or international, generally serves.

about the cpp file,I have no idea at the moment, but I'll try to find
out and study it to see what could I may help with my limited
knowledge, and also with pleasure, I would be looking for help with
testing and reporting details.

A greeting and appreciation for this great and necessary project.

regards

Javier.

P. S. wrote in Spanish because I feel like it's your first language,
but attached message in Spanish in consideration of what might read
tdos. greetings.

Hi Rallaz,

I located the spline problem you mentioned. It turns out LibreCAD works as intended, but the dxf you supplied has the "closed" flag for spline set by mistake, according to dxf format reference.

Re: Would like to help in LibreCAD.

Rallaz
One problem is the letter "F" of the word "OFF" should be drawn as a triangle since the beginning and end points are repeated to make angle.
The closed flag is set in all the splines and Autocad 2009 and 2010 drawn closed, but the 2012 version  draw open (letter F) and probably some other program too, need time to investigate and if I can tomorrow make a couple of screenshots.
