Cannot open flie.

Jim Thompson
This post was updated on .
I am unable to open the file of a previously worked on drawing. i get this notification:

"Cannot open the file
/home/jim/Desktop/##Wing planform.dxf
Please check the permissions."

Where do I "Check, the permissions" please?

edit: I found permissions in properties. I tried multiple settings options, all resulting in the same message as above.

Hi Jim

Linux Mint - good choice :), I have this on my laptop.

Jim try ticking the 'execute' box and try again, although it seems strange to me why you should have to check permissions on the file.

Have you recently upgraded from 15 ?

Is this a file you have previously drawn with a different CAD program ?

Is this the only file this happens with ?

Try creating another test file and see whether you get the same result.

Hi Jim

Are you able to attach an example of a file that is not opening here on the forum for testing ?

Hi Jim, the file you have attached is in a text document format and not dxf? so I cannot open it either!

you can save it to a dxf file name.

It opens properly for me.

one thing I'm not convinced is your special characters in file name. can you rename to to regular file names and try again?

Use the "Save source as..." function from your browser's context menu and add the extension .dxf to the file name in the save as window.

About opening files without .dxf extension please read bug report #441 on sf.net.
The message about permissions is misleading here, we have to refine this.
investing less than half an hour into Search function can save hours or days of waiting for a solution

Re: Cannot open file.

I'm managing to save files and then open them again now. I'm still a bit confused, but fairly sure it was the way I was saving the initial file.
Now I open a new file, start the drawing and then try saving and opening to make sure before proceeding. Then it if opens, I know I can continue working on it.

Thanks to all.
