2.2.0 Release Candidate

Anybody trying this build? Would it be worth updating from 2.1.3

Yes, it's as stable as 2.1.3. with some improvements and bugs squashed. But your imperial units input problem won't be any different there. I wouldn't expect this to be solved and as imperials is a dying out system anyway from LibreCAD's view the developing effort should be spent on other more urgent fields.
