Is it possible to clip or trim multiple objects to a rectangle or limiting entity so that just the line work or miscellaneous drawing objects remain on the inside of the rectangle or other side of the limiting entity?

No, it's not possible that easy way. After selecting the limiting entity you have to select the entities to be trimmed one after the other. Also the limiting entity can not be a polyline, what a rectangle is.
