Dimension

When I try to dimension an object I get the message  
specify first point and then specify second point
and then it goes back to specify first point and I never get a dimension

Hello all. As an ex-AutoCad user I am now learning LibreCAD. I am unable to get any dimensions to show up at all. And do I really need to specify vertical or horizontal measurements, vs. just measure a linear distance?

I got all that. When I click on any dimension tool I am prompted to click first point, then second point then nothing happens. No line, no dimension, nothing.

Sounds like Beng and I have a similar problem.  

Seems so. But you both do not provide useful information to support you properly.

You should post your LibreCAD version and operating system.
Post exact what you read in the GUI.
Post the exact tool name you use.
Step by step what you have already tried.

My assumption is, that you use Measure tool instead of Dimensions.
Measure tools are just informational. As the name says, to measure distances or angles in the drawing. The result is printed out in the command box history, no affect to the drawing.
The Measure -> Distance Point-to-Point tool asks for: Specify first point of distance
When Dimensions -> Alinged asks for: Specify first extension line origin
