Dimensions show an empty box?

I'm trying out LibreCAD for the first time hoping to have a simple 2D program. I have extensive experience with AutoCAD, and currently only use Rhino for my work.

So I made a rectangle, and added a dimension. The dimension gives me an empty box over the lines. I thought it might be a scale thing, and increased the scale. Everything got bigger, but not text in the box. Text style is set to default "Standard".

Maybe there is "Draft Mode" activated?

Thanks. That was it. Not sure what draft mode is, but I'll figure it out.
