Erase and Move

Alphadug
Hi all, I'm converting from Autocad LT 2009 as it has died and I don't need  complex cad software for the little home projects I do. I can't seem to get erase(delete) or move to work. I have the user manual but I am obviously missing a crucial concept or step. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

Easiest way to delete: select and press Delete button on the keyboard.

Move:  a) select and drag around. Behaviour differs when grabbing at a corner / handle or somewhere along a line / circle. Best test out by playing.

          b) Tools - Modify - Move/Copy. Do selection first or if you invoke the Move command first, then close selection with Enter. Specify the reference and then the target point when asked, with the mouse on the screen or numerically at the command line. Make your settings in the appearing Move/Copy box and click OK there or Enter on the keyboard.
