Feature Request - named Views Functionality

Jamason1182
I have to do alot of complicated, multi-layer dependent drawings (architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, blah, blah). I would LOVE IT if the new Named Views stuff could also save visible layer information. As in whatever visible layers are selected when you make the Named View, it remembers and restores those when you restore it.

It could be an option in the settings for named Views as to whether or not the user wants to use this, I know not everyone uses their layers in that way. But if the option was checked, it would restore the currently visible layers - gracefully ignoring any layers that have been removed, etc.

Pretty, please?

hm... well, that's might be interesting and useful feature indeed.

However, I need to check how this may be compatible with DXF format - after all, named views are stored as part of dxf and the file should be compatible with other software that supports dxf.  Yet I'll definitely consider this.

If I'm correct - there is some mistyping?  It should be " it would restore the layers that were visible at the moment of the view saving", right?

Plus, I'm not sure I understand what to do with other layer - imagine that some set of layers is stored in view. Does it mean that ONLY these layers should be visible on view's restoring? Or it means that they should be visible and if there are other layers (say, created after the view was saved) - they will be at any state.

and another question - what is the major value for - is it ability to restore the set of layers TOGETHER with the VIEW or JUST be able to restore some saved state of layers?

As far as I can see, from the first glance DXF does not support storing the information about layers together with view.

Even AutoCAD uses a bit different concept -  the Layer State (LAS file)  - and it is also stored externally to DXF.

Potentially, we could support something similar.

DXF is flexible enough, so probably it will be possible to find some place to store attributes of VIEW/LAYERS relations like application-specific data. Yet in such case, it hardly could be compatible with other programs that handles DXF (so this will be LC-specific only).
