The tool Modify -> Divide is what you need for this.

With snap on endpoints activated, the divide tool snaps at 0°, 90°, 180° and 270°.
And with snap middle activated, you can snap in the middle of each 90° segment.
Snap middle has also an option in tool option bar, where you can set the number of middle points.
With 1 middle point snap is at 45°, with 2 points it snaps on 30° and 60° etc.
Or draw an angle line with the needed angle and use snap on intersection.
investing less than half an hour into Search function can save hours or days of waiting for a solution

Thank you again, Armin. I'm used to seeing this as a command called "Break". I greatly appreciate your patience and help.

For the hopelessly confused, can you give a simple step by step explanation on how to divide the circles in this drawing to form a slot?  I got it to work once on one side, but not the other.  Can't understand how to get this to work consistently.  mill_stop_base.dxf
One time I got a 90 degree trim.

Trimming circles does not always work as expected.
In your case it is easier to divide the circles. Each one at the line ends, then you have 4 semi circles and you can simply delete the inner two.
You can try it with your drawing or use mine mill_stop_base.dxf
