How to insert a block relative to another block

I cannot figure out how to insert a block relative to another block or another entity. Can someone help?

Having to explode the block to set the zero point will get tiresome if you have many instances, but I will give it a try. Thanks.

My work around was to put some temporary points or lines in the locations and then copy or insert the block at those locations. I would then delete the temporary points. It's not perfect, but it works.

Yes absolutely, use whatever helps to get the job done! Auxiliary constuction lines, points and other references are in my opinion an essential and necessary part of any drafting process.

For me I tend to set up a different layer called construction - with a different colour and work on this layer for construction lines etc. then when I`m done just "turn off" the layer.
