"Keycode mode" option in application preferences?

Hi, very impressed with appearance but hoping it's use can be a little more keyboard driven?
My question is about the following quote from previous question response,
"I've added a "Keycode mode" option in application preferences -> defaults (requires restart). It automatically accepts two letter commands (you don't need to press Enter/Return).
This is apparently an old feature that was disabled, yet it still seems to work fine". Is this still the case as I cannot find this option?

It's been changed. The new version can be toggled from the command line (find the new button).
A restart is no longer required.
