Layer List question

On the layer list, each layer contains an eye, a lock, a printer, a hashtag (#), a color block and a layer name.  What does the hashtag do?

The hashtag (#) toggles the Construction layer (refer to http://wiki.librecad.org/index.php/LibreCAD_users_Manual#Layers).  Draw a short line and click the hashtag icon and watch what happens to the line.  It should go from showing it point to point to being continuous (an infinite length).
