Is this for CNC routing/laser cutting etc?

There are specialised software for it, even open source but we don't have them integrated, only through export/import of DXF files through these tools.

do you mean that you want to add this function to LibreCAD yourself?

In any situation, you don't need to pay to modify LibreCAD.

If you want to release a modified version of LibreCAD, GPL requires releasing of the source code.

There's no developer working on this particular feature, and it makes more sense to try free CNC softwares, as Ries suggested.

sure, I do development mostly in Qt-Creator.

If you would like your changes in the official repository. Feel free to send in pull requests or ask for commit access. All new additions to LC v2 is required to be GPLv2+ (v2 or any later version at end user's preference). It's not required, but it's encouraged to co-assign copyright to the LibreCAD project, so it's possible to re-license the code to other free software licenses (like MIT).
