New CAD User - Basics

swbouton
Hello,  I am interested in using LibreCAD for simple 2D floor layouts.  My experience is old and limited to a T-Square, eraser, paper and a sharp pencil.

Most drawing will be scaled to 1" = 10'.  For example, one project is for a layout that will be 70' long any 30' wide.  Others will mostly be smaller.

I need to have dimensions for the lines and rectangles I will use.

If it matters I will be printing all I can on 8.5" x 11" paper.

Am I using the right software to do this?

How to start?

Yes, this is the right software to do this.
First you have to make the proper settings in Options - Current drawing preferences. I have prepared a template in inches according to your specifications. That's quicker than to explain everything. Delete the sample contents to make your own drawing and then save under a new name. Study the above mentioned settings I have made, you may experiment with changes. 'General scale 120' stands for 1" = 10', equivalent to 1:120. If you change the scale you would also have to change the page border box accordingly.
Have fun.

I appreciate this very much.  Thank you.

It comes up as a text file.  Should I make it so and where should I store it?
