Not Recognizing separate entities in opened files

I am trying to figure out why LC is not recognizing individual entities in opened files. For example, I am trying to pull a distance measurement between two entities but I can't get the pointer to snap to any point. I have endpoint snap on I can't get it to snap. What am I doing wrong?

Of what kind are your entities? If it is text, it can only be snapped at the insertion point. To snap at single letter lines you would have to "Explode" it first.
Can't think of anything else at the moment.

I just got a laser cutter and am just playing with things to figure them out. I've tried to do a few things, offset entities, extend line, trim lines. It's almost as the individual lines were joined together or maybe a giant poly line. Is there an explode function in LC?
