Old guy here / AutoCAD refugee

Hi there...a retired engineer here who moved to LibreCAD since AutoCAD is prohibitively expensive. Just getting used to this new-to-me software so I'm likely to have multiple questions over time.

Welcome to LibreCAD and the forum.
If you had a life before AutoCAD that included drawing from first principles you will find that experience useful to overcome some situations where LibreCAD does not have some of the more esoteric convenience tools of AutoCAD. It also has some foibles (bugs) that are yet to be fixed by the few, very hardworking, developers (of which, sadly, I am not one - not having the necessary expertise).
