Why Set Old Threads to Read-Only

I think it is more confusing and harder to follow a lot of threads on the same topic rather than adding to an old thread I was probably following anyway and want clarified.

I realized this recently too and found the setting in config yet.
Threads shouldn't be locked anymore now.
