dimensions and text not appearing, and are substituted by a rectangle

dcas2020
Hi All
I'm a new user with a problem, hope I'm  posting to the correct department, and if not please let me know.

I'm running LinuxMint 19 and using Librecad:,
Version: 2.2.0-alpha
Compiler: GNU GCC 7.3.0
Compiled on: Jun 18 2018
Qt Version: 5.9.5
Boost Version: 1.65.1

I tried an earlier Librecad version last week and it worked good for text and dimensioning, but I thought the version was out of date. I installed the version listed above which seems to be OK, except it won't put  text  characters in document. The program substitutes a rectangle for text. and same with dimension function too, places a rectangle instead of chars.

Would anyone please give me an idea how to get this version to insert text and dimensions characters properly.
As mentioned, no probs doing text with the previous version. Perhaps I have a development version that gets rebuilt daily, and this one is problematic.
cheers,
Denis

Maybe Draft mode is your problem, see here.
