italian translation

Hi, I'm Italian and I see that the Italian translation is surprisingly out of date for such a wonderful project. So if nobody is working on it I'd like to help with it.
I'm an electronic engineer and a programmer, and I used Autocad quite a lot in the past, so I think I know the technical terms and the like.
How should I proceed? Go and directly work on the translation? Or do I need to be "approved" in some way?

If you register on our translation server we can allow the permission to submit the translation or any current suggestions.

the permissions for your account are set.
You should now be able to submit suggestions or add new translations to the Italian project.

If there are any issues, you can search the forum or reply here.

I did some little tests... So I can do everything through the web interface, is it? I guess that "Pootle" is a standard system, so I should find some documentation on it.
Just the last question, how does interaction between translators and admins happen? Are we notified of new or changed sentences to be translated, other submissions, etc?
In the very first sentence I tested there were several suggestions containing spam... I was able to delete them and submit the correct one. Thanks for letting me in with full power, I'll do my best to complete the translation to 100%.
