Hans,
LibreCAD started around June 2010 because I wanted to add some CAM
features to the CE version of QCad. When I figured out QT3 was going to get abandoned
by the mayor distro's I decided to port QCad CE to QT4. One thing did lead to a other
thing and here we have LibreCAD.
Main differences are:
1) QCad isn't maintained, LibreCAD is
2) LibreCAD is going to get new features, QCad will not.
3) LibreCAD is truly open source while QCad was not (main reason was it's closed source version, Ribbosoft could never accept community patches for it's closed source releases).

Yesterday I have downloaded and installed LibreCAD.
Today I've played around with the software and learned that LibreCAD was forked of from QCAD.
I`ve never heard before of LibreCAD nor QCAD.
Don't remember how I found it.
What are the main differences between QCAD and LibreCAD ?
Why and when was LibreCAD forked of from QCAD ?
