what would be the proper way of adding dimensions to the drawing in the image (green is the drawing and white is the dimensioning) A or B or is there another way?
I think my idea would not work on such a drawing cause one can't draw a line which intercepts all the the lines where dimensions should be added (like in the image in the first post (line from A to D).
So I think that one have to select all the lines one want to have a dimension added between.
But if in most cases the drawings look like the image in the first post we should add a checkbox to the normal dimensioning tool and if this is checked, the dimensions would be added between all the lines that intercepts the drawn "line" (A->C).
So the idea of selecting all the lines takes longer but is more flexible (can be also used for drawings like in my image).

claus82,
can you please tell what you mean by "implement a fixed extension line value "?
did you have to add the numbers of the dimensions by hand, cause there were no numbers added to my dimensions???
@Heyzzzze
I think the devs look into this forum. There is also an IRC channel and the bug/feature reporting page on sourceforge/github.
But don't know how often they look into the forums.
