What about letting LibreCAD creating those directories when installing?
windows: C:\Documents and Settings\rallaz\.LibreCAD\patterns
or C:\Documents and Settings\rallaz\My Documents\LibreCAD\patterns
Linux /home/rallaz/.LibreCAD/patterns
 or /home/rallaz/.config/LibreCAD/patterns

I would also just change the  "copy to c:\program..." for "edit->aplication preferences".
Maybe you should start to add a version number to your manual on the first page (or on each page in the header or footer and maybe in the file name itself)
Then just add a note in the first post that something changed and
A: add the file to the first post
or
B: just add the link to the post with the latest version
