Ries wants a new CAD engine for efficiency. It's a good thing if we can invest enough development time into.
In the mean time, I am okay to work on feature sets:
conic sections
efficient hatching algorithm
efficient offsetting algorithm
improve our equation solvers ( I tested, our quartic equation solver is actually better (in precision) than the one from GSL library).
add scripting, improve command line interface
etc.

Congratulations on being got chance to be part of GSoC.
Found some detail at
http://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/Project_Ideas#Mentorswhich showed impressive number of Mentors for LibreCAD, but project idea's number is not matching with number of mentors.
Only one idea is listed there, which IMO is very big project.
If you wish to push LibreCAD in that direction, then other projects also needed to be aligned with that.
I request core developers to decise direction, priority for LibreCAD.
Then all mentors should pour ideas and lead the role.
Best of luck.
