I have used DeskProto myself and I just did see they have a free version (https://www.deskproto.com/products/free-ed.php)

I very much like open source but I found it very hard to find good open source CAM software that doesn't sit in the way of the work and gives me repeatable results...

Perhaps nowdays there is more OpenSource (dxf2gcode is to simple for most work imho).
