First select entities, then copy/paste

By menu:
Edit -> Copy, Edit -> Paste

Or keyboard:
CTRL + c, CTRL + v

Watch the Command or Mouse widget, they show you what is expected, because you have to define the reference point after copy command!
Either by left click or coordinate input in command line.
