Although it is not as easy as installing a package, there is still the 'building from source' option.

For Ubuntu, it is quite easy and documented in the User Manual : https://librecad.readthedocs.io/en/latest/appx/build.html#building-on-linux
This also allows to use different releases : I have the 2.1.3 official release installed for testing and backup (in case the last build is unstable which did not happen so far) and the last build (last development code) for  my work.
