I found this, some ten years later, and thought I'd provide a solution.

The issue I found was that, when you hit Edit -> Copy, it will ask you for base coordinates in the window where you normally type copy/move coordinates. This is easy to miss if you're used to copy/paste just working, and clicking on some location on the page doesn't seem to satisfy it.

The same is true when you do the paste, and the geometry won't show up on the page until you tell it where it needs to go.
