It's likely due to zooming.

The current mechanism is to avoid rendering text in tiny scales.

Could you zoom in to see the text?

If needed, please upload a sample dxf with the issue.

I don't have draft mode on but my added text and dimensions appear as rectangles in the drawing, but it shows correctly in the print preview. Please see the attached examples, the red rectangles represent the text in the drawing. Thanks.
