Adjusting the printer to print dark lines in LibreCad drawings.

Jim Thompson
My printer will print out LibreCad drawings, but the lines are very faint and barely readable.
Where do I find the settings to adjust the line thickness or density for printing?

I do not know the version of my LibreCad. Where do I find these details?

Jim.

Hi Jim,

On line changing line attributes:

Thanks for you reply dxli.
I tried that, but can only modify one line at a time.
How to I do it for an entire drawing without laboriously changing one line at a time please? I can't see a description of that in the manual.

Select all lines and then choose Modify → Attributes.
It is for multiple objects.

This post was updated on .
A selection tool to select all of one type of entity could be useful.

I am still unable to do it.
I select all the lines in the object and then when I click on one of the lines etc., all it does is make that individual line thicker.
I suspect there is more to the explanation than your one liner above suggests.
Or have I missed something really simple?

Also, I did go to the link you posted in your second post, but could not find a download link. Where is that? What is the page for etc/
Not clear at all to this user.
Sorry.

"...then when I click on one of the lines..."
It sounds like you are still using Modify → properties.
You want Modify → attributes.

The link is a proposal; there is nothing to download.

When I click on modify>attributes, I am not offered any field. Nothing happens.
Something missing here...............

I'm having the exact same problem .... I can get the color lines to work as well as the different lines setting but the line width doesn't work .... tried the above recommendations but still nada .... any other suggestions ..... I am a newbie to LibreCAD so please be gentle ..... LOL ... don't care about modifying all the lines at once I'm content to do one line at a time ....

Are you shure the line width doesn't change? Zoom in very close. In drawing view line width is shown in real life size in relation to the length of the line, so in a long line it will always appear thin. Only in print preview it will look like on paper, printed with the true set line width (in mm),  relative appearence depending on scale.

Thank you sir for your reply I will check it out in the print preview .... the reason I wanted fatter lines is so that they are easier to see while drawing as well as to distinguish walls from other items in the drawing ....

I imagine two modes and two values.
The first mode is the one we already have;
the second mode allows for a pixel value.
Users would be supplied a toggle.

Thinking about this makes me wonder:
when is it desired to have the line width be a real world representation of a line?

Having the line width a real world representation makes sense with drawings of relatively small objects, like mechanical parts expected to be printed in a scale of 1:1. With large objects, let's say a wall 10m long, a line width of 0.5 mm pen size appears thin as a hair at 1:1. Imagine it drawn on the floor. But if scaled at 1:100 and still applying 0.5 mm pen width it appears thick, a solid wall.
I don't think you can handle this satisfyingly with a pixel value, as this doesn't change when zooming in and out.
More advanced commercial cad programs show the line width according to certain scale, like LC in the print preview. You then need to have a scale setting option in the drawing view also.

I guess I'm not making myself clear .... no problem with the printing as like was said I can adjust the printing color .... what I mean is anyway to adjust the darkness and width while drawing lines on the graph paper in the program itself ..... yes I know I could zoom in or out but I only need 10 squares up and down (10x10) to do what I want to do ..... I could see the lines I draw while drawing them a lot better if they were a bit fatter (like me... LOL)

Yea I know the above is probably about as clear as mud .....

Thanks dellus; that helps.

@Mike
Try modify -> properties (command: prop)

We need a keycode (two characters) for that... any suggestions?

Ok, what bothers Mike may really be a minimum linewidth in pixels on screen problem. As far as I know Librecad behaves the same as other cad-programs in this respect. This may be an issue with modern high resolution screens especially.
It might help to try out a different background colour.
