Architectual Dwgs

Randerso
New user here and not familiar with drafting.  I would like to design a simple backyard shed for county building approval.  I figured out how to set the drawing for an 11 X 17 size sheet and set the dimensions to read properly but when I draw a line it shows the real time length of the line as I go in the number of inches I have gone across the 11 X 17 sheet and not the scale I have set which should be hundreds of feet.  How do I make the dimensions and the real time length indicator agree with each other?

You have to set the desired drawing/printing scale at General Scale ( inverted value) and leave Length Factor at 1.
In CAD you normally draw in real world dimensions, scaling down is done at printing process.

Thank you so much for your help.  I didn't realize that everything is drawn to full scale and then sized to fit the page at print time.
