Boxes displayed instead of text for smaller zoom levels

Hello,

While zooming in, I see text as normal and as I zoom out, that text gets smaller (as expected.)

But at some point only a box (rectangle) is displayed. I guess this is to make it redraw faster.

How do I set it to either:
Change the threshold so I can see smaller text, or
Don't draw boxes at all.
