Hello all,
Time for the ideas list for us to apply for a Google Summer of Code student. I can help with organization this year but am looking for someone to be my "backup" Ries was back-up last year. Contingency plans are important, so for each project they a primary and back-up mentor. Our site is here: http://wiki.librecad.org/index.php/GSoC_2013 Please add your projects like we did last time around: http://wiki.librecad.org/index.php/GSoC_2012 Our feedback on our unsuccessful proposal last year was "It was perfect, we just didn't have enough money for everyone." So, I plan on pretty much submitting the same as last year, just updated with our new projects. If you'd like a student to work 40 hours/week over the summer coding for LibreCAD, please throw up an idea to the wiki site. Cheers, Scott |

That's right. But browsing it again to polish/improve it, won't hurt. It may be helpful. How we should take it? My way is: If our proposal was perfect, then there were many other perfect proposals, which were unsuccessful. So now, our proposal needed to be among top 5 proposals, and not at bottom of perfect proposals. Do anyone know the criterion, by which they rate proposals. Is it importance of project? community size? activity on mailing list / forum or something different or just from perfect proposals it is only Luck. -- H.S.Rai

From what we heard, it really was luck at one point of the selection process. We, and many other, asked for anything at all we could do to improve - and they told us that we were exactly what they wanted, please apply again next year. Last year they tried funding more "new" organizations than in the past, hopefully they do that again this year to our benefit. I also think it was our first time applying, perhaps they prefer repeat applications. I do appreciate an extra set of eyes, please read over the ideas list and try to research what others have done. Cheers, Scott |

Hi All, I will go over the list later today. Thanks, Dongxu On Mon, Mar 18, 2013 at 5:09 PM, showard314 [via LibreCAD] <[hidden email]> wrote: Hello all, -- Dongxu Li, Ph.D. www.librecad.org |

Hello!
As discussed in IRC chat with Dongxu I would like to ask write permission in wiki. As I'm not that familiar with the code I was thinking about sorting various ideas into well-defined proposals and add some "meat" around it (like some ideas about implementing that idea). I would use a separate page for this, as I'm not that familiar with the code, yet, so that others may amend what I list. Nick PS Already requested to register with the wiki, but that seems slow. |

Whom it concerns:
I am without extensive development experience, but I will try this Idea. Have some experience in C programming of Survey Functions, routines and #include files. Title of Project = Meeting the Land Surveyor's Needs Breif Explanation: Provide Land Surveyors and Mappers with functionality to meet the needs of a Boundary and/or Topographic Survey. Expected Results: Functions and Routines that would attract Surveyors and Mappers to the Linux (FOSS) environment for the preparation of their clients needs, and further processing and reading of Survey Data into a spatial database. Knowledge Prerequisites: C and/or C++, Data integration. Mentor: Joe O'Connor, Professional Surveyor and Mapper (joseph@LinuxGIS.com) Sincerely, Joe O'Connor Florida Surveyor and Mapper 561-502-3514 |
Hi Joe, I have added your idea to the list here:http://wiki.librecad.org/index.php/GSoC_2012#Meeting_the_Land_Surveyor.27s_Needs On Tue, Mar 19, 2013 at 9:59 PM, joseph_oc [via LibreCAD] <[hidden email]> wrote: Whom it concerns: -- Dongxu Li, Ph.D. www.librecad.org |

The page is set up: http://wiki.librecad.org/index.php/GSoC_2013 Remember, ideas should be about improving code (new features) and cannot be documentation or packaging. At least one mentor for each idea must be contributors to github for at least a year, but other mentors for the project can be anyone from the community. I can submit our application before the ideas list is 100% done, but it should be done around the same time we submit. Also, RVT - would you want to be "co-admin" again this year? Everything needs back-ups on the application. Cheers, Scott |

Scott,
I can be a backup-admin, unfortunatly my time to LibreCAD is very limited. Ofcourse, if the new 'kernel' is still added, I will be mentor, that project is also currently on github. Hi, I keep editing the 2012 page, and I can copy over to 2013 tonight. I added the idea of "Mobile LibreCAD". I feel it's a good idea, but we need to emphasize the work needed is more than packaging. On Wed, Mar 20, 2013 at 9:47 AM, showard314 [via LibreCAD] <[hidden email]> wrote:

Hi Scott,
I copied the 2012 page to 2013. All updates should go to 2013 page from now on. Thanks, Dongxu |

Hi Ries,
It's asking for you to: "Backup admin does not have an org admin profile for the program. Please ask your backup admin to register a profile for GSoC 2013 at https://google-melange.appspot.com/gsoc/profile/org_admin/google/gsoc2013" The app is ready to go, just need you there ~Scott On Wed, Mar 20, 2013 at 10:15 AM, R. van Twisk [via LibreCAD] <[hidden email]> wrote: > Scott, > > I can be a backup-admin, unfortunatly my time to LibreCAD is very limited. > Ofcourse, if the new 'kernel' is still added, I will be mentor, that project > is also currently on github. > > Ries > > > On Mar 20, 2013, at 8:47 AM, showard314 [via LibreCAD] <[hidden email]> > wrote: > > On Wed, Mar 20, 2013 at 5:27 AM, dxli [via LibreCAD] > <<a > href="x-msg://2219/user/SendEmail.jtp?type=node&node=5707745&i=0" > target="_top" rel="nofollow" link="external">[hidden email]> wrote: >> Hi Joe, >> >> I have added your idea to the list here: >> >> >> http://wiki.librecad.org/index.php/GSoC_2012#Meeting_the_Land_Surveyor.27s_Needs > > Hello all, > The deadline is next week, so we may need to set up the idea list > sooner than later. Dxli/Rallaz,
Could either of you sign up on google melagne to be a co-administrator for GSOC? Reis needs to do it tonight and I can't get a hold of him, if either of you can register let me know and you can be a backup admin along with Reis and I. Please send me your google melange login in name (info is at the link below). "Backup admin does not have an org admin profile for the program. Please ask your backup admin to register a profile for GSoC 2013 at https://google-melange.appspot.com/gsoc/profile/org_admin/google/gsoc2013" Cheers, Scott |
