LibreCad configuration

jfinnall
Just started with Ubuntu package that was version 1.0 then upgraded to
2.0.4.  Many improvements and considerably more readable.  Still I have
some questions or issues after the upgrade.

1) The Library Browser list displays two of every item, for instance the
sample Tux in the misc category is shown twice.  In the actual library
directory there is only the single file.  How to remove the 2nd
reference?  Oh, they both do actually work.

2) What is the name and location of default template or document for a
new drawing?  I have not been able to locate anything to modify for what
I want to define as a blank (new) drawing.  The templates folder had a
file named empty.dxf but that did change anything either when I altered it.

3) When I use "New from Template" it responds with my drawings folder
and not the templates folder.  When I change it to the templates folder
then my Open location also changes.  Yet these are two separate
locations and I did provide the template directory in the path
preferences.  Is there a way to correct this manually in the config file?

Thank you for your assistance,
James

First, please verify your settings from main menu:

Edit->Application Preferences->Paths

Re: LibreCad configuration

jfinnall
I copied all of the library and template structure into my own drawing folder and reset the file paths accordingly.  I still had the duplicate entries.  When I deleted the global (default) directories the duplication disappeared. So it appears the global area is hard coded in the program and then the file paths are for individual configuration.  When I had the paths set to the global area where I had changed the permissions to use it then the files were being read twice.  When I copied the files to my own area they were still being read twice until I deleted the global area.

The option for the paths would make more sense for two areas, local and global.  The installation could set up the local user with the drawing location where permissions would be allowed and then the user could setup a global on a network drive share for a multiuser configuration.  The library list could also be split to allow for local and global symbols to differentiate and shorten the lists.  The initial install defaults were useless without having write permission.  Also very awkward as in item 3 below.

I still have not been able to define what a "new" drawing should be.  So I do not use it, I only use New from Template.  There are many settings to have to change every time.  In the end though it prepares me to use the other instead where I can have different templates to choose from.  Might even be something to consider for the future to force the template option only.  Templates allow for different paper sizes, scale options and many other basic drawing needs.

By moving the library and templates to my local drawing area it has also helped with item 3 below as well.  The file paths of /home/james/Documents/Drawings and /usr/share/librecad/ were rather far apart to be forced into changing back and forth.

Thank you,
James

Replacing the default drawing on startup (and New) has been resolved by adding a real drawing name to the end of the path for the template directory.   I located this answer under the forum for CAD-templates-blocks.

Re: LibreCad configuration

could you help adding this into our user manual at wiki.librecad.org?

Let us know your user name for wiki, so permissions can be added.

Re: LibreCad configuration

I completed a wiki account request under "James Finnall".

There is an empty place holder under the Quick Start Guide labeled "Creating Your Own Template" that appears to be suitable for the request.  This page could discuss the default template, file path specification, and general use of templates.

Well, I completed my first wiki page I think.  The link below should take you directly to it on the wiki site.

Please advise if I overlooked something or something is wrong / incorrect.

Thank you,

It reads good to me.

Since it's wiki, it can be improved over time.
