Line Disappears As I Finish Drawing

Tango
I'm using the instructions in the Brief Overview to try to draw lines or rectangles, so I'm doing this:

1. Click on the line on the main toolbar so I get the line drawing toolbar.
2. Click on the Line icon (or the Rectangle icon)
3. Move the mouse to draw my line (or rectangle)
4. When I get to where I want to end the line (or rectangle), I left click

At this point the line or rectangle disappears completely and I'm left with the small red circle with the crosshair in it at the point where I wanted the line to end.

I realize in the Drawing Lines section of the manual it says to left click at the end, then right click twice, but I don't get that far.  As soon as I left click at the end point of the line (or 2nd corner on the rectangle), the line I had vanishes.

I've also set the color to red, so I wasn't drawing a black line on a black background, but I still have the same experience.

Am I in the wrong mode?  What am I doing wrong?

I can't reproduce this problem.
Try the little eye icon next to the layer you are on.

D'oh.  Okay, got it.  Thanks.

I always seem to have this issue when I start with something.  Dumb mistakes for the first few days, then I catch on quickly.

It's just surviving those first few days!

It's actually very common for people to press those buttons and become confused.
When all the lines become infinite, check the # button. ;-]

The layer list definitely needs some improvement.
