Make a face

How do I put four lines together and then turn it into a face that I can select and add a fill color?

I tried using he snap ends to create a rectangle and then use the hash tool to make the face, but it said it was not closed by .0000349 e-4 inches.

Select only the End snap to make sure that the loop will be closed.
Draw the 4 lines (when you get close enough to one end the pointer gets "attracted" to end, it may require a bit of zooming with mouse wheel).
If it is as simple as rectangle, you can even draw directly a rectangle.
