Parts Library

Hi I'm from South Africa and I am busy compiling a set of "icons" for architectural use in construction. This entails the drawing of various windows, doors, sanitary ware etc. which are used in this country.

How do I go about to save these designs in the Parts Library of LibreCAD? Do I only need to save the .dfx file or must a .png file also be created?

As a matter of fact, where is the Library stored on a Linux (Ubuntu) installation. Is it in the usr/share/... folder.

Can I save this in the home/~/.local folder so that LibreCAD can access this?

Create in your home  a folder called ~/myCadLibrary p.e. and
 ~/myCadLibrary/bath
 ~/myCadLibrary/bedroom
 ~/myCadLibrary/others
etc.
add in each folder the corresponding dxf files
in LibreCAD go to menu "Edit->Application Preferences..."
in the oppened dialog select tab "Paths"
in "Part libraries" add /home/"user_name"/myCadLibrary (~/myCadLibrary not work)
close LibreCAD and reopen it then ready!!

Note: you can add more paths separated with ";"

doing as you suggest I simply can not see the library, nor the *.dxf files in it. All I see in the library browser are the directories "misc" and "templates", which were automatically installed in "/usr/share/librecad/library" when I installed librecad.

Any further ideas?

You have added the paths in "Edit->Application Preferences..." ?

If yes, please, comment about your system and LibreCAD version

Your problem may be that you are missing the directorys that are mentioned above (bath, bedroom and others)?

The first hit already contains two electric libraries.
When they are not sufficient for your need, you may find more here:

and I suspect that there is more than one thread here in the forum, all sites have search function too.
You may also find tutorials on YouTube.

At least, when the libraries don't have what you need, you can create your own blocks and library.
