Problems with the installation

franco1
I have a problem on a PC that has 2 types of profile set: Administrator (who is authorized to install sw) and User (who cannot install but can use sw).

If I install Librecad using the Administrator profile, the User who must use it does not see it: how can I solve it?

You log onto user profile and launch installation process who will request for Administrator password.

I have installed the sw from the administrator profile. It is the User who does not see Librecad installed.

Yes, that's why @fa201 advised to use the user account and not the administrator account to run the installer.
The installer will ask for admin permissions. You have to grant them, either by simply accepting, when the user is in the Administrators group or you will be asked for username and password for a valid administrator account.
Then the user should be able to run LibreCAD without admin privileges.

ok ... does this mean that if I have 3 user profiles (in addition to the administrator one) I have to repeat the installation 3 times?

No, in this case move the shortcuts from users start menu and/or desktop to the public all user location.
The application can be installed only once and when you want to share it between users you have to use shortcuts in a common place or create individual ones for each user who will use it.

I encountered the same problem, tried messing with the directory unsuccesfully. I then tried to install directly from the standard user account, which didn't work either. It still installed in the admin account. Both with a copied .exe file as well as full uninstall and fresh installation from LibreCAD.

I might be wrong, but this smells a little bit like linux, in that whoever signs for the install will get it, meaning the one with the admin authority, so I wound up giving the user account temporary admin status and installed directly to the account, this time succesfully, and then reversed the admin privileges in the account settings to normal upon completed installation.

Hope this helps anyone who should come across the same problem. You'll of course need the other user in the room, should you not have access to the user account some other way. In my case I just have a seperate admin account, not to do something dumb without at least being prompted for password for regular daily use, and having the tech tools separated from everyday programs. Alternatively the user will have to do the install themselves to their local account, though they still need admin privileges, or you will end up with the install on your admin account again.

@MMP

We can modify the windows installer to allow installation as the current user without admin access.

Need some testing though.
