Projects for GSoC

hsrai
Congratulations on being got chance to be part of GSoC.

Found some detail at http://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/Project_Ideas#Mentors

which showed impressive number of Mentors for LibreCAD, but project idea's number is not matching with number of mentors.

Only one idea is listed there, which IMO is very big project.

If you wish to push LibreCAD in that direction, then other projects also needed to be aligned with that.

I request core developers to decise direction, priority for LibreCAD.

Then all mentors should pour ideas and lead the role.

Best of luck.

Re: Projects for GSoC

dxli
Ries wants a new CAD engine for efficiency. It's a good thing if we can invest enough development time into.

In the mean time, I am okay to work on feature sets:

conic sections
efficient hatching algorithm
efficient offsetting algorithm
improve our equation solvers ( I tested, our quartic equation solver is actually better (in precision) than the one from GSL library).
add scripting, improve command line interface
etc.

I would like to see someone adding:

Scripting

Macro

Will it be possible to add any above (my wish and Dxli's wish) that can work with LC2, and later can work with LC3 without much problem?

I didn’t add to many of last years because I wasn’t sure who is available.
But feel free to add more on the wiki if you feel like, but hurry.
Proposal time has been started already and run’s untill March 21.

From what Dongxu proposes, most of them can be carried over to LC3 if needed.

eg:
* conic sections
* efficient hatching algorithm
* efficient offsetting algorithm
* improve our equation solvers

Order to carry over will be Scripting, Macro. This is because these are fairly closes to how the CAD system works internally, and LC3 work’s complete differently because it’s a total rewrite and we don’t carry over any of the current classes.

Rai,
did I read you know GIS very well? If so, I have some questions I liek to talk about some of these days...

OK.

Know well or not is relative;-) Feel free to ask question.
