dimensions show exactly half of line length entered

win 8.1
If I draw a line of "n" length by inputting line length in the line length box and then dimension that line the dimension shows "n/2". I've set application preferences to "inch" and current drawing preferences to "inch". I think probably this some idiot move on my part, but i can't seem to figure out what I need to do to solve it.

Edit->Current Drawing Preferences.
Select tab dimensions and change "General Factor" from 0.5 to 1
