how to calculate a surface

Dear All,

I want to calculate the surface of a polygon.
I already found the following topic where someone wrote that one just need to use surface calculation in "info":
http://forum.librecad.org/Surface-area-of-enclosed-shape-td5708188.html

But could someone please explain me what to do after clicking on it? I have one horizontal orange fixed line and another vertical which moves as I move the mouse. How can I do something with this please?

PS: I have the same problem to draw a line between two points: I have one horizontal orange fixed line and another vertical which moves as I move the mouse. How can I do something with this? What I do is that I change each time the coordinate in the properties, but it is not a good way.

You have to click all the corner points of the shape. In the command line the current area of the current rubber string is shown until the first point is hit again, then the command is completed.

Thank you very much dellus for your message.

Please see the two pictures enclosed. I cannot chose and click on any corner. I have the 2 vertical and horizontal lines that you see. I can only choose where the vertical line should be.

and

I have the same problem when I want to draw a line between two points.
I would be very happy to receive help.

You have activated Horizontal Restriction mode.
Find the button on the bottom tool bar:

Click the button to release it and you can freely move the cursor again.

Oh my dear, I have failed the test. If I had read your question properly I should have understood where the problem might be.
Most time it is also more practical to have "Free Snap" on additionally, as the snapping cursor doesn't jump around so wildly, it's smoother.
By the way: a very chic desktop you have got there, what is it?

Dear dellus,

I have Kubuntu 18.04 with KDE 5.12.5.

Thank you for the piece of advice concerning Free Snap.

Cheers.
