offset creates two lines

HI there
I am getting two lines when I use the offset or/and parallel

Version: 2.2.0-rc3-24-g4602ec6a
Compiler: GNU GCC 7.3.0
Compiled on: Mar  5 2022
Qt Version: 5.12.4
Boost Version: 1.65.1

on an old laptop using windows 8

anybody have this issue

Maybe, when you clarify your request, somebody can explain what happens.

What kind of entity is the original? Line, Arc, Circle? Probably a Polyline?
The two lines have same distance? On both sides? Or both on the same side with different distance?
investing less than half an hour into Search function can save hours or days of waiting for a solution

Using the tool Line - Parallel a Tool Options bar appears above the drawing area. It has an input box for the number of parallels.

I cleared the screen of all tool bars and widgets to find out how "tool options worked

sorry for not being clearer
In this instance I mean a line to be the shortest distance between two points so I used the Li command / or and Line 2 point tool.    Before I posted here I had also tried splines circles .. with broadly the same result (and I relearned how splines fragment under such pressure
Meanwhile Dellus came up with a clever answer to my stupid question
