portable version of LC

hordagoga78
hi everybody,
i have got situation like this: after requesteing of AC (autocad in my company) with negative answers, i decided to find out something else, "no installing needed", "free licence".
i got LC portable. works pretty good, for my case.
until that, i hit the wall...
i want to add some points into my current drawing. i checked this forum advice and followed them... no result...
i can do this by adding single point one after another, but what to do if i got houndreds or tousends points?

importing of ASCII does not work, importing block does not work either...
trying to copy and paste from one drawing to another - still nothing...

i think, this must be platform problem (windows) or my LC version (portable)...

have we got portable 2.0 or higher of LC?

Re: portable version of LC

Ctl-C/Ctl-V should work to copy entities from one drawing to another.

1, open both drawings;
2, from the source, select your entities to copy (points, lines, etc.);
3, Press Ctl -C (or Cmd-C on Mac)
4, select a reference point;
5, switch to the destination drawing (Main menu: Windows);
6, Press Ctl-V (or Cmd-V on Mac)
7, select your target point

the source/target point is a way to control the position of the pasted.

I'd like to package it and the original package developer is no longer available. It appears to work by simply:

* replacing the LibreCADPortable_2.1.3\App\LibreCAD folder with the one from C:\Program Files (x86)\LibreCAD
* updating LibreCADPortable_2.2.0-rc1\App\AppInfo\appinfo.ini
Reply:
We don't normally update to pre-releases, we only do stable releases. And it's based on what the publisher makes available. I'm wondering if other LibreCAD users would like to chime in on whether we should make an exception in this case

This post was updated on .

It would be good if people tested LibreCADPortable_2.2.0-rc1.paf.exe and gave a User Acceptance Testing Report.

Report only needs to be a few comments about the environment(s) you tested it in and the results of the functionality tested.

Tested in Win XP and in PuppyLinux Tahr 6.05 with Wine 1.6.2. Everything seems O.K. What release of RC is it? The About doesn't show it. A while ago I have tinkered together a portable LC RC myself, similar as described in your previous post, it was 111 and About showed it.

That's obviously a nightly build which is different to the Windows installer release on GitHub About. It would be handy if About reported OS.

Re: portable version of LC

Ah, I see. I have never used that portableapps - app. I just have all my portables in a portables folder. From those I use often I put links to the desktop. This way I can have several LibreCADs of different versions with different set-ups available.

I prefer portables to regular installations anyway, if available. More flexible, less complicated. LibreCAD should officially provide a link to a portable build here on it's site.

No other responses yet?

Are you stalking me?

Maybe you want to support Add PortableApps.com Download with a thumbs up. It could be managed and hosted in the LibreCAD repository too.

I see you run a de version. What would be the best way to handle languages in the PortableApps version?

Re: portable version of LC

The languages are included in every LibreCAD version, aren't they? At first start-up, also in the portables, you are offered to set the language. I think it is ok that way.
The de version I run is just a normal one switched to German and saved that way. More convenient than to switch to and fro in one install. As LibreCAD is small it's no problem to have several installs.

I've suggested RVT and LordOfBikes take a look at it. I think they're a bit behind on merging requests.

It is the right version 2.2.0 rc2 now.
As expected it did not run on my Windows XP. Something has been changed after 2.2.0-rc1-190 so it would not run on XP anymore. LordofBikes has initiated dedicated XP versions for the nightlies then, as a temporary measure, until a new stable version appears.

I managed to get it running in Linux with Wine, seems o.k., Puppylinux Xenialpup with Wine 2.20.

Tomorrow I will have opportunity to test at a relative with a more modern Windows.

I can report it worked at my relative on Windows 8.1. Not tested thoroughly, but seems to be o.k.

I advocate for a direct download link from somewhere on the start page.

Do you know the cause of the malfunction on windows 10?

Re: portable version of LC

No, I don't. In which way does it malfunction?
At my relative, when he tried to open the installation file Windows first refused to open it because of some security issue. He could override it with open anyway. I have not been present, just guided him via telephone. I didn't expect a real problem, there have never been any virus issues with LibreCAD or Portableapps, and good old flywire is a honest person, isn't he?
So far I haven't heard of any bad consequences.
