I should also mention.  I discovered this work around after installing Mavericks on my wife's Mac Air.  Her machine also crashed on saved files after a restart.  Once I noted that I needed to save a file first, before trying to open an older saved file, I went back to my MacBook pro and found it worked the same way.  Two Macs running Mavericks handle LibreCAD the same way.
