I tested the procedure on Mavericks:

1, Start LibreCAD from the LibreCAD-Mavericks.dmg
2, draw a rectangle;
3, "Save As" to the drawing to a file, say, ~/a.dxf
4, Quit LibreCAD program by Menu: LibreCAD-> Quit LibreCAD (Command-Q)
5, start LibreCAD from LibreCAD-Mavericks.dmg
6, Open the file saved in step 3: ~/a.dxf

Results:

the file loads normally.

Please upload the crash report by OS/X.

Another thing to try: please build LibreCAD from source, and do the same test. We need to know whether this is a packaging issue.

To build LibreCAD from source, you will need macports to install Qt, boost, and MuParser.
