I'm having trouble with finding I do not have permission to open a file after I have spent some time working on it and saving it.
What do I need to do in the first place to avoid this? And once a file is in the "no permission" category, can I still do something to open it? Or is it just ready for the trash? |
please provide exact error message (copy&paste), and/or screenshots.
LibreCAD keeps saving backup files named as #foo.dxf

I went to find the problem and take a screen shot only to find that the file opened ok this morning.
I will post again if and when it occurs again. Thanks. |

I still have problem with saving a new file and then retrieving it for later viewing or continued work. I get an error message cannot open file, check file permission.
This only happens rarely, seemingly at random. It could cause me a huge amount of frustration and wasted time, if and when I eventually loose a document I have spent a lot of time on. What is going on? Can someone tell me please? Jim. |

I've unified your separate threads and moved it to troubleshooting.
It's still hard to attempt to find out what's going on with such less information. When you want to open the file, do you use File->Open menu in LibreCAD? Or do you use the recent file list in LibreCAD? Or do you open the file by double clicking in your OS's file mananger? What is your OS and which LibreCAD version are you using? Can you navigate to the file location with your file manager? Can you open the DXF file with another application, a text editor (notepad or gedit) for example? Armin

I'm sorry, but the screen shot doesn't answer any of my questions. We can't support you without this information.

I also don't know how to do that. I just want to open it in LibreCad to work on it. Most times, this does not occur, so I did not think of opening it in another program. Text editor? Why? And how would that be useful? I've actually had this problem happen rarely since I first started using LibreCad. Just frequent enough to really catch me out sometimes with a half developed drawing. Then I have had to start all over again. Wasted time etc. |

OK, then I think that your problem are blanks in the drawings file name.
In your screen shot I saw the file name with blanks. I tested this from inside LibreCAD and it works for me. But when you open LibreCAD by clicking a DXF file on your desktop, then the command line may become invalid with blanks in the file name. The easiest way for you should be to rename the file and eliminate the blanks in it. Maybe you can recall if blanks in the file name is the rule when the error occurs. Armin

Thanks Armin. I will do some trial file saving with and without blanks.
edit: I just did the tests, one with blanks in the file name and one without. They both saved ok and were recovered (re-opened) successfully. The mystery continues................. |
I'm experiencing this problem to the degree that it is sabotaging my work. I lost a couple of hours drawing work this morning.
Can someone please assist with this!!! I'm getting to the point of desperation here. What is meant by "File Permissions"? Where do "I check them"? Someone must know. |
file permissions are not handled by LibreCAD.
If it happens again, simply find the file, copy it into your home directory, and open the copied file. If you can locate the problem and troubleshoot it in this process. From your screenshot, your drawing is under /media/, which is a removable device by default. I feel your removable could have hardware issues, or simply remounted to another path. I recommend you to keep important files within your home directory(i.e., some hard drive), and only use removable for backing up.
|
Thanks for that. I will try and follow the instructions.
I should note that I have had this problem long before I started using the removeable USB drive. Probably doesn't have any significance in this case though. |
Just copy the file manually to a new location, and make sure you can open it with other programs(for example, gedit, or 'cat' from command line).
If LibreCAD can not file the file, it complains about "permissions". The bottom line, there's no need to redraw anything, unless you can not get the file manually.

You may want to try some linux file managers, or try a tutorial with linux command line.
