The background image I insert shows as an empty black box. How do I get it to show up? I am inserting a jpeg.

LibreCAD might be in draft mode. Try pressing [Ctrl]-[D] to toggle draft mode off and on.

Thanks for your response, Gary. That didn't seem to work. John On Fri, Mar 12, 2021 at 3:31 PM Gary S [via LibreCAD] <[hidden email]> wrote: LibreCAD might be in draft mode. Try pressing [Ctrl]-[D] to toggle draft mode off and on. |
Have you moved the image you inserted? What do you mean with black box, a black frame or a black area?
Try and put the image file into the same folder as the drawing. The image is not integrated into the drawing file, it is just linked to it. |
Black area. Actually when I press Cntrl D a couple of times it still says draft mode at the top. Both files are in the same directory. With Cntrl D you switch Draft on - off - on - off...
Hold Cntrl and then press D. If your screen background is black the image will be black also with Draft. Is the image shown in Print Preview? Go to Tools - Modify - Properties and click into the image. What does it say? Is it an image at all? What's written in Path? Is it the right image? |

Another possibility: maybe the jepg is incompatible somehow. Resave it externally as png and insert again or try with a different image.

I've tried png and other images. I can't seem to get it out of draft mode. The path is right. I also try to do a saveas to make it a dwg and can only get a dxf. I guess that is the draft mode that I can't get out of. On Tue, Mar 16, 2021 at 5:44 PM John Hager <[hidden email]> wrote:

Again, does the image show in Print Preview, and is it being printed? This would indicate it indeed has something to do with Draft mode stuck.
Does it happen only with this particular file or is it always the case? Maybe LibreCAD is corrupted and a reinstall helps. Is the drawing file coming from an other source than LibreCAD? You could provide the file here for testing (you may clean out the contents), and the image. |
I did consider a reinstall which I will try next. It originated from another CAD program. I was not able to save as a dwg. I could not tell how to remove the image. I've attached a dxf (I think). |

LibreCAD does not support save as DWG, only reading.
So saving as DXF is correct and the only option to save drawings in LibreCAD.
investing less than half an hour into Search function can save hours or days of waiting for a solution

You can not save as dwg in LibreCAD.
My posting was misleading. I did not mean to remove the image. Only the other elements. I asked to have the image provided too, to test if there is a problem with the image itself. I could insert an image and it showed up with no problem. Also no problem to switch Draft mode on and off. Here is the file with the inserted image, and the image. It is much smaller then your file. ? There must be something wrong with your file. overall_pln_103.dxf 103.jpg |

I opened the file you provided and with the DRAFT mode on, I can see an outline for three images, one on each layer. With it off, nothing appears. I inserted one of my own JPGs (with a name corresponding to one of the other three). With draft mode on I get the outline, with it off I can see the image. However, once I save the file and reopen it - it ends up the same way as the other images - it doesn't appear. So, it is likely (?) the dxf file and not your installation.
I also saved the two file Dellus posted and have the same result - outlines in draft, but no images otherwise. Q: If you use the "Properties" tool and select one of the images/outlines, does it show the path & filename? When I initially inserted an image it did, but after closing it and then reopening it, it does not. |
If I reopen the file I have sent the image I inserted is shown. Of course you have to place the file 103.jpg into the same folder.
I think LANDguy1 didn't have the images in the same or original folder. |

Okay, weird. I had the files you provided in the same folder.
I opened the original dxf file in a text editor and the original image files have a fully qualified path, but the path doesn't show up in the "Properties" tool dialog. Does it for you? I also noted the file size of the original file is 198.1 kB. Once opened and saved with LC it is only 17.6 kB. |
Yes, they do.

LANDguy1, can you provide one of the images you had inserted for us to test, or is it a problem?
Does the file and the according image I have sent back work for you? What OS and what LibreCAD version do you use? I'm running out of ideas what could be the reason. |
