LibreCAD, Total Stations and archaeology

johnjc8
Hello everyone

I'm considering downloading and learning LibreCAD to use with an archaeology group (all volunteers - hence LibreCAD looks like a good option).

We have access to a Total Station to record archaeological sites, and in an ideal world, LibreCAD will be able to import whatever files the Total Station generates.

Has anyone any experience of using LibreCAD as a tool to display Total Station files?

All help and suggestions most gratefully received.

Hi johnjc8,

we have many people interested in using LibreCAD with land survey. I think you can find quite many posts on the LibreCAD-dev sub-forum.

Feel free to send in request feature requests, and/or patches. We do need help from users as well as developers:

for example, with a group of developers, we can even bring LibreCAD to html5, i.e., web based LibreCAD

Hi johnjc8,

I am working with a Topcon and a Geomax Total Stations and no problem.

The normal use are:
1. download the job data to computer using the program of your station
2. convert with your station program from the private format to a standard format like dxf, csv, txt, etc.
3. import in LibreCAD

If your station program save as dxf simply open it,
For text formats use "File ->Import ->Read ascii points"

More info:

Cheers.

Thanks for the info. Rallaz

I'd better contact the 'keeper' of the Total Station and find out its exact specification.
