Text not appearing in textbox

Can somebody please help me here?  I've been working on this on my own for hours and can't find a solution.
When I insert text into my drawing, all that appears is the textbox border.  I'm able to see that if I only type a few letters, the text shows with no border, but as soon as I add too many characters, the text is no longer visible.

View - Draft is on. This simplifies a complex drawing so it takes less time to be drawn on screen. Switch off if not needed.
